1. Friday night, May 9, is TACO and TACO salad night at the Post. Come enjoy a bit of what's available and have a cold one of your choice and listen to some great variety music free of charge. The main thing is to have a great time with your friends and enjoy your Post. As normally under these circumstances we urge you to not need an excort home by the local authorities cause their excort fees are extremely high! In other words, you don't wanna go there!
2. Memorial Day Celebration has been set for 26 May 08, 11AM at Magnolia Gardens Cemetery on S.Pleasant Hill Rd. The public is invited and we expect another great ceremony hosted this year by VFW Post 9998, Commander Pledge Cannon. There should soon be articles in the Telegraph about the ceremony. At this time, the guest speaker is Mayor Donald Walker. Come out if you can and show your patriotism for our fallen war Veterans on this Memorial Holiday!
3. VFW State Convention, Macon, Georgia (12-15 Jun 08). For those interested, the meeting is in Macon and obviously close to where you don't even need to reserve a room down there if you don't want to. However, if you do please go to (www.gavfw.org) and information is available for room reservations at the Crown Plaza hotel in Macon for that timeframe. Please ask for VFW rates.
4. Lastly but not least, I would like to thank each of the Post Officers for the hard work in making our Post a great place to come visit and enjoy ourselves as members of the Post. We are continuing to make improvements to our facility, to include most recently installing two new airconditioners, fixed the leak over the cooler so the gals don't have to wade in water to get things out of the cooler, a few new bar stools are ordered and a few new round tables, etc. We are currently undertaking a project to fix our outside cooking area to be better for the folks that cook out there and have plans for a new additon to hold some freezers and the washer and dryer as time goes on. I cannot thank our Post officers enough for their dedication and hard work to make these things possible for our Post. It has been a team effort and we do have the interest of the Post at heart and Veterans. I don't have enough room here to explain what we have done in the last two years but our support of the Veterans in Milledgeville and Dublin are paramount and we will continue to do that within our financial limitations.
5. Other items of note: A member of our Post, Wayne Hagan (our Mr. Fix it all including the trailer) was elected Commander of District 3 in the state of Georgia for the forthcoming year. I have no doubt that Wayne will do a great job as our district Commander and we will do everything we can to support him in that regard. Understand our guy Bob Haun has had some physical problems lately and hope he is on the mend. He does a lot for our Post that most folks don't even know and I appreciate his hard work and dedication. Jim Jones is still giving pinnochle lessons in the pinnochle room I understand and one of these days I'm sure some of those guys will learn how to play, ha!
Think he just enjoys giving lessons, ha! Guess that's about it for this update but please put down 21 Jun as a fish fry date at the Post. We are having a benefit fish fry for one of ours that needs our support for cancer issues (tickets available soon on that) and that morning Dave Eich and Steve Seaman will be hosting a benefit golf tourney at Waterford for the same person. Details are available at the Post and will be put on the website soon. Lasty, our Annual golf tourament will be conducted on 26 Sep at Waterford, so start making plans now for that to either enter a team or help us get prizes and hole sponsorhships to help support our Post and Veterans in the hospitals in Dublin and Milledgeville.
Thanks you for your participation in our Post. Ben D.
